One of South Africa’s most zany, crazy and lively comedians, Kurt Schoonraad, will be at The Caledon Casino, Hotel & Spa with some of his just-as-funny friends for a night of side-splitting comedy on Saturday the 29th of October 2011.
The funny-men joining him for the evening are award-winning stand-up comedian, Martin Evans and Kasigo Makgadi, better known as KG.
The show kicks off at 7pm. Tickets are available at the Caledon Hotel Reception Desk at R200 per person. This includes a 3 course dinner.
“At this frenetic time of the year as we hurtle to the festive season, a little comedy relief is just the antidote. We urge people looking to lighten up a little to join Kurt and his friends for an evening of laughter and fabulous food,” says Paul Campbell, General Manager at The Caledon Casino, adding that plans are to host comedy nights like this on a regular basis.
The next one is on Saturday, the 26th of November.
So who are these funny-men?
Hailing from Mitchell's Plain, Schoonraad is Cape Town's favourite comedian and his earthy humour makes him a real South African boykie in every way. Although hilariously funny, he performs a clean act focusing on the widespread diversity of our rainbow nation’s varied cultures.
Schoonraad is no stranger to South African television….his parents had one since he was five. In this Genre, he is best known as the quirky accidental tourist on the hit SABC TV series Going Nowhere Slowly and for his role as the whacky protagonist on the popular game show Crazy Games. Other TV accolades include hosting a season of the ever popular Comedy Showcase on SABC, featuring on Pieter Dirk Uys’s Evita, Live & Dangerous, and Barry Hilton’s Funny you should say That.
His latest one-man show, HomeGroan takes the audience on a wildly funny journey into the deepest reaches of his warped mind. Schoonraad represents a wholesome, proudly South African character that is easy to relate to. He portrays a strong friendly persona that is synonymous with popular culture.
Stand-up comedian Evans has been performing comedy for the past four years. In that short period of time, he has found himself traveling the globe spreading the funny. With over 600 gigs experience all over England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Bahrain, Spain, Belgium. In 2007, he decided to move back to South Africa. Since then, he has used his ability to make people laugh all over South Africa, and currently runs and promotes more gigs across South Africa than anyone else.
KG, as he is affectionately known, is the son of a Sangoma and is well and truly on his way to becoming a true comedy heavyweight. KG takes his audiences on a unique comedy journey with a glimpse into the “behind the scenes” practices of a Sangoma and what it’s like having one that you call “dad” and why he was never able to take a day off sick from school. His take on what is regarded as an “unknown” is yet another first for South African comedy. He is fast becoming one of the top new acts to take to the stage in South Africa.
