The Caledon Casino, Hotel and Spa provides the start and end point for this year’s Staalwater Mountain Bike Challenge which takes place on Saturday the 10th of September 2011. The race takes riders on a scenic tour through a mix of private farms and district dirt roads.
There are three routes to choose from, offering riders, from novice to experienced, a chance to participate in the race.
- The 60km route offers about 1000 metres of vertical elevation and it is expected to be a fast ride with a winning time of less than two hours. The route takes riders in the direction of Tesselaarsdal from where they commence the climb up the pass before heading back to the casino.
- The 30km route takes riders to the well-known Voorhoede Farm with just over 550m of vertical elevation. As with the 60km option, riders start and finish at The Caledon Casino, Hotel and Spa.
- The 15km race is a flat, but scenic trail that is perfect for beginners, children and families.
